YWCA Silicon Valley is on a mission to end violence.
We’re looking for 1,100 men in heels, 1 for each sexual assault survivor we will serve this year.
Every June YWCA Silicon Valley host’s Walk a Mile in Her Shoes – a light-hearted event to raise awareness about a serious issue, sexual assault and domestic violence. Funds raised provide critical and life-saving support services to survivors. Men, women and children from all walks of life, including prominent business leaders, elected officials, professionals, educators and students join together and walk a mile in women’s shoes to demonstrate their support for YWCA Silicon Valley’s important work and commitment to ending violence.
YWCA Silicon Valley is on a mission to end violence in all of its forms. “Ending violence against women” means ending violence against all individuals who identify as women; regardless of the sex they were assigned at birth.
This includes violence against women who may identify as transgender. Transgender women also encounter bias and violence perpetrated against women. Often times they experience ‘extra’ bias and violence due to their transgender identity. Additionally, non-binary and genderqueer folks are vulnerable to “violence against women” due to their identity posing a threat to the patriarchal structure of a binary gender system.
