LEGAL SERVICES

The YWCA Silicon Valley Legal Service team helps survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking file for restraining and/or civil harassment orders. We also assist survivors in filing limited family law paperwork, and accompany them to court in criminal, civil and family law hearings.

YWCA Silicon Valley is a BIA certified agency – we can help survivors file for their U, T or VAWA visa.

LEGAL SERVICES PROVIDED

  • TRO Applications and filing applications with the court

  • Filing any other initial family law paperwork with the court

  • Limited family law paperwork assistance for divorce, child custody, child support and visitations applications. We only do initial filings and only if connected to either DV, SA or HT. If out of our scope of services, we refer individuals to Family Law Attorneys, FJC for consult with attorney, or other Legal Agencies like Bay Area Legal Aid

  • Court prep

  • Court accompaniment to Family, Civil and Criminal, as capacity allows

  • Legal information, resources and referrals. This also includes immigration related information and resources

  • Helping survivors report. Accompanying to police station, if needed, and as capacity allows

  • Accompanying to other government agencies and service providers, as needed, and as capacity allows.

YWCA SILICON VALLEY NORTH COUNTY FAMILY JUSTICE CENTER

Led by YWCA Silicon Valley, The North County Family Justice Center (NCFJC) is a collaboration of multiple government agencies and community partners that provides services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking. The NCFJC is staffed by attorneys and non-attorneys with a range of expertise, encompassing immigration law, family law, domestic violence advocacy, legal advocacy, criminal law (prosecutions), victims witness assistance, and law enforcement support. The service providers include the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office, the Step Forward Foundation, family law attorneys, and advocates from the YWCA.

The center is only open on Fridays
from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.

Note: Voiance Language Services is always available if walk-in/partner is needing language interpretation assistance.

OTHER SERVICES PROVIDED AT NCFJC

  • Referrals to service providers

  • Food - mostly non-perishables and canned goods, with some fresh fruits and vegetables, as capacity permits

  • Gift cards for necessities - as capacity permits
