Housing First Advocate
Full-Time (40 hours/week), Hourly, Non-Exempt.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Housing and Development, the Housing First Advocate provides case management, crisis counseling, safety planning, community referrals, building life skills, education/employment plans, and financial literacy, and domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking education to individuals and families residing in the YWCA Silicon Valley’s community-based housing programs. Responsibilities include and are not limited to:
- Maintain a caseload of survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking; assess housing and service needs; arrange, coordinate and monitor the delivery of individualized services, develop a goal plan to assist client in maintaining permanent housing.
- Provide crisis counseling, safety planning, DV, SA, HT education, community referrals to survivors impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking in person and on the phone using a strength-based, client-centered, trauma-informed approach.
- Provide information and referral assistance regarding available housing support to domestic violence service agencies and/or community programs.
Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree or college course work in social services field or equivalent combination of education and experience in housing industry. Candidates should have knowledge of sensitivity to sexual assault and domestic violence issues, trauma, gender equity and/or other forms of oppression. Understanding and application of program theories such as trauma-informed care, feminist, and anti-oppression/anti-discrimination frameworks are key.
Desired: Bilingual, bi-cultural and bi-literate skills highly preferred. Spanish, Mandarin, or Vietnamese languages. Prior experience providing case management or advocacy-based counseling highly preferred. Motivational Interviewing skills highly preferred.
Required: Cleared background check (fingerprinting), valid TB test, valid California driver’s license, and auto insurance. Must have completed or be willing to complete a 65-hour California State Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Counselor certification. (Training will be provided).
