YWCA Silicon Valley Announces The 2018 Tribute to Women Awards Honorees!

San Jose, CA-March 7th, 2018 – YWCA Silicon Valley has revealed the 55 Honorees who will receive this year’s Tribute to Women and Emerging Leader Awards. The Tribute to Women Awards recognize the achievements of women who have excelled in their field and have made significant contributions to the Silicon Valley through their leadership. The Awards, in the 34th year, are an effort to encourage women’s leadership and promote equal advancement opportunities for women of diverse backgrounds. The Awards Dinner, presented by Cisco, will be held at the Fairmont San Jose, on April 26th, 2018.

“Cisco is committed to changing the diversity equation in tech,“ said Shari Slate, Cisco’s Chief Inclusion and Collaboration Officer. “We are proud to join the YWCA Silicon Valley in celebrating the amazing women leaders in our region that are blazing new trails for all women.”

Although they hold almost 52 percent of all professional-level jobs, American women lag substantially behind men when it comes to their representation in leadership positions. In 2014, women were just 20 percent of executives, senior officers, and management in U.S. high-tech industries. A recent survey found that only 11% of women hold executive roles in Silicon Valley companies. Irrefutable evidence has confirmed how much adversity women face trying to break through the glass ceiling. It is also significantly harder for women of color to advance professionally.

Additionally, amidst the #MeToo and #TimesUp movement, women have united to speak out against the hostile culture that is pervasive in today’s society. Women have come forward revealing overwhelming inequality and sexual harassment in the workplace. YWCA Silicon Valley’s goal is to cultivate a Silicon Valley where women are not only welcomed in leadership positions and STEM fields, but respected as well. The nonprofit provides pathways to well-paying, growth careers through youth engagement in STEM and removing barriers for families in accessing quality early learning and school age opportunities.

YWCA’s Tribute to Women Awards has been shining a powerful light on women leaders and the companies that employ them. YWCA Silicon Valley  is on a mission to empower women by working to end racism and violence, to achieve solutions for survivors of violence facing homelessness, and to inspire by closing the education and prosperity gap.
